The honor for the first training session on the new Astro Turf pitch fell to the U16 and U15 boys teams on Friday night and the Senior Team even had their first session on it on Saturday but it was the U15 girls of Athlone and Mullingar playing in the Midland Schoolboy/girl League who had the first ever competitive game on it.

The game took place on Saturday afternoon and Athlone got off to a great start as Norah Canny entered the history books as she calmly slotted home the first ever goal on the Astro Turf. Inspired by the great start the Athlone girls went on to dominate the game and ran out 7-0 winners on the day.
